Insurance types: health, life, home, motor and travel
Different insurance products address different risks. Start with what a product covers, who receives payment and on what terms, rather than relying on its name.
Health: Israel has statutory health-basket entitlements, supplementary health-fund services and private policies. These are distinct systems. Private cover does not mean every treatment is included; check eligibility, providers, exclusions and limits. Life: death cover pays the beneficiaries under the policy when a covered event occurs. Loss-of-working-capacity cover is different and depends on contractual definitions of ability to work. Such components may also exist in pension products. Examine existing benefits rather than treating every heading as new protection. Home: buildings cover concerns the structure and specified parts; contents cover concerns possessions inside it. Third-party liability concerns harm to others. These are not necessarily one package. Motor: Israeli compulsory motor insurance concerns bodily injury under law. Third-party property cover concerns liability for damage to others’ property. Comprehensive cover may also address damage to the insured vehicle, subject to covered events and terms. Travel: check dates, destinations, medical cover, pre-existing conditions and special activities. Baggage or cancellation cover is not necessarily included. This lesson maps the concepts; it does not decide what a particular person should buy or cancel.
Three imaginary cases: damage to a home’s wall differs from theft of a computer inside; the first concerns buildings and the second contents, if the event is covered. Damage to another car’s bumper is property damage, so do not assume compulsory bodily-injury cover pays for it. Medical treatment abroad requires checking travel cover for the dates and circumstances. Identifying the branch is only a starting point: conditions, exclusions and documents still matter, and claim approval is not guaranteed.
Make a fictional table with event, damage, insurance type to investigate and one coverage question. Use these three examples without names, medical records or real policies.

How insurance works: premiums, cover and deductibles — Insurance is an agreement to pay a premium for cover against specified events. It helps manage possible losses; the terms determine when and how much is paid.
Reading a policy and understanding overlapping cover — Reading a policy means checking covered events, exclusions, price and possible payment. Similar policies are neither automatically redundant nor a promise of double payment.
