This educational tool is free to use without an account. Change one input at a time, compare results and read the example and assumptions below. Results are illustrations, not forecasts or personal offers.
Value added tax is a tax on transactions that are liable for it. In the consumer price it is usually already included.

Explanation and exampleStart with fictional amounts that are easy to check without a calculator. Write down the inputs and the first result, then change just one assumption. This helps you identify what caused the difference instead of changing several factors together. Check whether amounts are monthly or annual, which currency is used and which costs are included. Two decimal places do not make an assumption certain. Finally, explain the result in your own words, identify missing information and note what you would need to verify before using real money.
At a rate of 18%, the VAT amount is 18% of the price before tax. Therefore it is added by multiplying by 1.18. To extract the price before VAT from a total price, divide by 1.18. Do not subtract 18% from the total price: the calculation base is different. There are exemptions, a zero rate and special rules; the calculator is an exercise for a transaction liable at the selected rate. The 18% rate applies from January 1, 2025; check the law at the time of the transaction.
100 ₪ before VAT + 18 ₪ VAT = 118 ₪. Out of 118 ₪, the VAT component is 18 ₪, which is about 15.25% of the total price.
For this exercise only, use fictional VAT of 10%, which is not the Israeli VAT rate. A price before tax of 200 produces tax of 20 and a total of 220. To recover the base price, divide 220 by 1.10; do not subtract 10% from the total. That subtraction would give 198 and confuse two calculation bases. Label every amount as before tax, tax alone or the total including tax.
